Senior financial leaderhsip without employing a full-time finance director
Dravero provides Fractional Finance Director support for charities, CICs and social enterprises that need experienced financial leadership but don't need, or aren't ready for, a full-time Finance Director.
We work alongside your leadership team, trustees and existing finance professionals to help you understand your financial position, plan ahead and make informed decisions about the future of your organisation.
Having financial information isn't the same as having financial insight.
Your accounts might tell you what has already happened. Good financial leadership helps you understand what that means for what happens next.
You might be asking:
Can we afford to recruit?
What happens when a significant grant or contract ends?
How much unrestricted income do we need?
Are we recovering the true cost of delivering our services?
Are our reserves sufficient for the risks we're carrying?
What happens to our cashflow if income is delayed?
Can we afford to develop a new service or take on a new contract?
What does our financial position look like in six, twelve or eighteen months?
A Fractional FD brings senior financial thinking into those conversations without the organisation having to employ a full-time Finance Director.
Fractional FD support is shaped around your organisation and the financial challenges you're facing. This might include:
Budgeting and forecasting
Developing realistic budgets, cashflow forecasts and financial projections so you can plan ahead.
Management information
Helping you turn financial information into useful reporting that supports decision-making by management and trustees.
Financial sustainability
Understanding reserves, funding dependency, unrestricted income requirements, cost recovery and longer-term sustainability.
Scenario planning
Exploring the financial impact of different decisions, risks and opportunities before you commit.
Services, projects and funding
Understanding the financial position of individual services, projects, grants and contracts.
Leadership and governance
Bringing senior financial input into leadership discussions and helping trustees understand the financial implications of decisions.
You may not need a full-time Finance Director, but there can come a point when managing your organisation's finances requires more than producing accounts and monitoring a budget.
Fractional FD support may be appropriate if your organisation:
is growing or becoming more financially complex
manages multiple grants, contracts or income streams
needs better budgeting, forecasting or cashflow planning
wants clearer financial information for trustees and senior leaders
is concerned about reserves, unrestricted income or future sustainability
is planning a significant change, new service or period of growth
has finance staff or external accountants but needs more senior financial leadership
needs someone who can work alongside the CEO, leadership team or trustees on financial planning and decision-making
You don't need to change your accountant or existing finance arrangements. Dravero works alongside the people and organisations already supporting you.
Fractional FD support is about financial leadership, planning and decision-making. It is not an accountancy or bookkeeping service.
Dravero does not provide:
bookkeeping or transaction processing
payroll processing
VAT or tax returns
statutory accounts preparation
audit or independent examination
tax advice or other accountancy compliance services
We work alongside your existing finance team, bookkeeper, accountant and other professional advisers, using the financial information they produce to help you understand where your organisation is now and plan where it needs to go next.
Fractional FD support is designed around the needs and complexity of your organisation. Some organisations need regular strategic financial support, while others need a more embedded relationship.
We start by understanding your organisation, how your finances are currently managed, the information available to your leadership team and trustees, and the areas where additional financial leadership would be most useful.
From there, we agree the scope and level of support. This might involve regular financial review meetings, budgeting and forecasting, management information, scenario planning, financial sustainability work or participation in leadership and trustee discussions.
Support can be provided through an ongoing monthly arrangement or, where an organisation needs greater involvement, a more embedded Fractional FD relationship.
The aim is not to create another layer of financial administration. It is to make sure the people leading your organisation have the financial information, understanding and support they need to make informed decisions.
If your organisation needs stronger financial leadership but isn't ready for a full-time Finance Director, let's have a conversation about what support would be useful.
